About Us

Maat Bookstore and More is a community-centered cultural hub founded by Aundar and Barbara Maat, dedicated to celebrating Black history, heritage, and empowerment in San Antonio and beyond.

We offer a carefully curated selection of books for children and adults focused on African and African American history, culture, and empowerment. Beyond books, our shelves feature authentic African clothing, natural body products, Afrocentric T-shirts, local Black films, and unique cultural items that reflect the richness of the African diaspora.

As longtime community educators and cultural advocates, the Maats have created more than just a bookstore—it’s a space for learning, healing, and connection. From cultural workshops and author talks to youth programs and history tours, Maat Bookstore and More hosts community events and educational programs that uplift, inform, and inspire.
